Regulation & Temperature Rise
Duty Cycle
When the load is intermittent and the duty cycle is much shorter than the transformer’s thermal time constant (which is several hours), a smaller transformer can be used. The power rating of the transformer is calculated as follows:
Voltage Regulation
The toroidal transformer’s output voltage increases slightly at partial load. The voltage drop can be reduced and the regulation improved by using larger diameter wire or a larger core.
Temperature Rise
POWERTRONIX transformers are designed for a temperature rise at full load of 60 degrees Celsius above ambient temperature. At lower output power, the temperature rise is significantly less.
If required, we can provide the toroidal transformer with a thermal protector to automatically turn off the transformer at a set temperature.
